Hop-Cube was at LIFT 2009 Conference!
Posted on June 24th, 2009

Invited by Microsoft as part of the Bizspark program, Hop-Cube had the chance to hold a stand at the LIFT 2009 conference organized by the FING (New Internet Generation Foundation) held in Marseille last weekend.
The purpose of this exhibition was to bring a public of warning enthusiasts on new technologies to think about the Internet and its uses that effects our society. This reflection was framed by a one-day workshop and two days of talks by leaders of innovation: Bruce Sterling, writer, author of “Shaping Things”, Alexandra Deschamps-Sonsino(Tinker.it), Euan Semple (Social computing for the business world), Gunter Pauli de ZERI (Zero Emissions Research & Initiatives), Dennis Pamlin, WWF, author of “Sustainability @ the Speed of Light” et Edith Ackermann (MIT) among others.

The first day was resolutely turned towards innovation while the next day addressed issues related to the progression and evolution of sustainable development.
We therefore had the opportunity to meet with these experts during their visit to the exhibition of the event, which included both companies offering innovative technologies and artists creating totally new digital artworks.
Among these artists, here are some examples:
- Da Fact: its founder defines his-self as a digital instruments maker: beyond the digital sounds that offers the prospects of creating infinitly, there was one thing missing to “electronic” music : the “instrument”. Da Fact therefore proposes an entirely new object enabling the performances on stage and the reproduction of a partition as a classical instrument. http://www.dafact.com/
- WJ-S is a software allowing multimedia lovers to mix online sounds, images, videos, text during live performances and turning them into a support of their digital emotions. http://www.wj-s.org/
- J+1: The principle is simple: open old electronic toys that produce sounds and experiment by making changes in the electronic circuitry to obtain interesting sounds. Then, fix the sound thanks to switches and knobs and then reuse it in a live performance. http://www.myspace.com/jplusun
Our visitors seemed to be charmed by our project and we’ve even seen some of them begin to brainstorm with on the different avenues to explore regarding the rating methodology.

We also met some journalists … and waiting for press feedback in few days!
To conclude, this meeting was a place of a great effervescence of grey matter resulting new way of reflection to follow.
Can’t wait the next one !
