Performance study of top e-commerce sites in France by Ernst & Young
Posted on December 1st, 2009

In a study published this year by Ernst & Young entitled “Assessing the performance of the top 15 online market places in France,” the audit firm provides development trends of large e-commerce sites in France.
Thus, we learn (but we already knew at Hop-Cube …) that the “Web ecolo-conscious and united” is “Trendy”
“The sites do not stop the sale, they move to vector of environmental communication and solidarity. Any buyer or visitor is concerned”
And the paper ends by highlighting the “surge of Green and united-typed communications” on e-commerce sites.
By offering the HopScore service, Hop-Cube not only has a “cute” project, we also meet a need that is becoming increasingly urgent over the Internet: information on the environmental quality of the products in catalogs of e-tailers.

Pieces of clue invite us to keep going!
Posted on April 2nd, 2009
It has been announced on all media, this week in France is the Sustainable Development’sWeek! This initiative of the Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Territory brings together more than 4300 companies and foundations that organize activities around sustainable development.
The first of clues mentioned in this post title is that the theme of this event this year is « eco-consumption », ie the promotion of more responsible purchases by the citizens to bring producers and this industry to adapt to this growing market.
The second piece of clue is in a draft document summarizing the Strategy for Sustainable Development over the period 2009 - 2012 prepared by the French MEESDT which contains a set of “challenges” on different themes, all designed to enter a sustained momentum across the country. The challenge No. 3 is about the consumption and sustainable production and specifies the following action leverage “inform and motivate consumers and purchasers to guide their choices to products less impacting the environment.”
Hop-Cube integrates completely this process of consumption aid promoted by the Government in proposing the “Hop-Score”, the ecological barometer for online shopping, which allows assessing at a glance the environmental footprint of products offered by the e-commerce sites.
Other documents should be published at a European level, we will keep you informed!

ICTs and Sustainability
Posted on March 22nd, 2008
In order to have more ideas about what we can do in IT with the environment, we were in TIC 21, on October 2007. This event was instructive and shows us several interesting problematic that should be developed. Here is a quick presentation of the event:
Global warming and energy efficiency are top of the agenda for the 2007 edition, as new policies are being drawn up, and they will be of key importance for the future.
With 400 participants, 100 renowned speakers and international specialists, the International Forum is a leading event amongst the meetings organised by TIC21, and its partners. Bringing together businesses, local authorities, institutions, associations, NGOs, the media, universities, researchers and analysts, the TIC21 Forum will produce an unprecedented gathering of different groups.
TIC21 was founded with the conviction that new technologies and the information society are major levers in generating a development respecting the people and the natural resources.
We wanted to thank Michel Giran for helping us to better know what is possible thanks to IT. Here is a link of one of his project: www.ecobase21.org
